Pre-service History in Mass Effect 2 represents the first of many choices that affect how characters will react to you during gameplay. Also, gives you a morality system bonus, depending on your selection. You can customize your character’s early history choosing betweenEarthbornColonist, or Spacer. This is not just a text you'll never see again; your choices here affect the storyline by accessing exclusive assignments (side quests) and Shepard's dialogues with various NPCs during the career. 

Imported Character

Those players who decide to import their character from Mass Effect 1 will not be able to change character's Pre-service History.

 

Mass Effect 2 Pre-service History

Your history selection during character creation gives you a morality system bonus to either category.

Spacer

Both of your parents were in the Alliance military. Your childhood was spent on ships and stations as they transferred from posting to posting, never staying in one location for more than a few years. Following in your parents' footsteps, you enlisted at the age of eighteen. 

  • Grants a Paragon bonus point.

Colonist

You were born and raised on Mindoir, a small border colony in the Attican Traverse. When you were sixteen slavers raided Mindoir, slaughtering your family and friends. You were saved by a passing Alliance patrol, and you enlisted with the military a few years later.

  • Grants part Paragon, part Renegade bonus point.

Earthborn

You were an orphan raised on the streets of the great megatropolises covering Earth. You escaped the life of petty crime and underworld gangs by enlisting with the Alliance military when you turned eighteen.

  • Grants a Renegade bonus point.
